Over the past 12 years youth sailors have been trying to plant watermelons on the beach at Wiggins Point. Every Thursday all the sailors make the trip out under the bridge and head Southwest on the might waters of the Neuse River. With the season only half over we still have plenty of opportunities to get a crop of watermelons started. The fleet of Opti’s, Laser’s, and FJ’s are a regular sight to see from June through August as youth sailors travel from all over to Bow to Stern Boating to help with this project. And then there is always next year to try again.
